Happy New Year! I hope you all managed to enjoy some quality time with your loved ones over the festive period. I would like to extend a warm welcome back to Brandles for the start of our Spring term.
The end of last term proved to be a tricky, constantly changing situation for families, schools, work places and services due to the ongoing impact of coronavirus. The number of students and members of staff who could not attend school during the last few weeks of term, due to COVID symptoms, positive results and self-isolation increased weekly. We only managed to safely staff the school during the last few weeks due to the having to close a small number of classes and through the sheer determination of staff.
Given the rates of COVID, it is likely that staff will catch the virus and, like you, be legally required to self-isolate. If and when that happens we will cover classes as best we can. If staffing levels are not appropriate to maintain the safety of children I may have to consider sending children home for a short period of time, or for remote learning over longer periods. This will be a very last resort and not a decision that I will take lightly.
On a positive note, we are expecting the furniture and equipment for our two new classrooms this month, so we are hoping that students will be able to start using the facility very soon! We are also now making full use of our wooden cabin which is an excellent addition to the school. The students have been fantastic so far in the first week, it’s good to know they actually look forward to coming to Brandles (Even if they might not admit it!).
Together we will get through this and ensure that the children's learning and experience of school is as good as it can be.
